Featured content represents the best that Wikipedia has to offer. These are the articles, pictures, and other contributions that showcase the polished result of the collaborative efforts that drive Wikipedia. All featured content undergoes a thorough review process to ensure that it meets the highest standards and can serve as an example of our end goals. A small bronze star (The featured content star) in the top right corner of a page indicates that the content is featured. The Waterpocket Fold
The exposed geology of the Capitol Reef area presents a record of mostly Mesozoic-aged sedimentation in an area of North America in and around Capitol Reef National Park. Nearly 10,000 feet (3000 m) of sedimentary strata are found in the Capitol Reef area, representing nearly 200 million years of geologic history of the south-central part of the U.S. state of Utah. Rock layers in the area reveal ancient climates as varied as rivers and swamps (Chinle Formation), Sahara-like deserts (Navajo Sandstone), and shallow ocean. The sea retreated, leaving streams, lakes and swampy plains to become the resting place for sediments. From 70 to 50 million years ago, the Laramide orogeny, a major mountain building event in western North America, created the Rocky Mountains to the east. The uplift possibly acted on a buried fault to form the area's Waterpocket Fold. More recent uplift of the entire Colorado Plateau and the resulting erosion has exposed this fold at the surface only within the last 15 to 20 million years. Ice ages in the Pleistocene increased the rate of precipitation and erosion. The cracked upper parts of the Waterpocket Fold were especially affected and the fold itself was exposed and dissected. RMS Titanic wreckage

Wreckage of the RMS Titanic's bow as seen from the Russian submersible MIR I. The shipwreck had been underwater for just under 95 years at the time of the photo, and has decayed considerably. It was discovered in 1985 at a depth of 12,500 feet (3800 m), 13 nautical miles (24 km) from where the Titanic was originally thought to rest. The bow section, which had split from the stern, had embedded itself more than 60 feet (18 m) into the silt on the ocean floor and was mostly intact.

Visits by tourists in submersibles and the recovery of artifacts are hastening the decay of the wreck. It is estimated that the hull and structure of the ship may collapse to the ocean floor within the next 50 years.

Featured list: List of Harry Potter films cast members

Daniel Radcliffe, who portrays Harry Potter, has been the icon of the film series since the release of the first film in 2001.

The list of Harry Potter cast members is a list of actors who voiced or portrayed characters appearing in the Harry Potter film series based on the book series by J. K. Rowling. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, who have played and will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in all the films, were virtually unknown when they were cast. Complementing them on screen are some of the most renowned actors of the United Kingdom and Ireland, including Helena Bonham Carter, David Bradley, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Brendan Gleeson, Richard Griffiths, Robert Hardy, Richard Harris, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Fiona Shaw, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters and Mark Williams.[1][2] Sixteen actors have appeared as the same character in the first five films of the franchise, and many of these actors are expected to reappear in Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows.

Some well-known British actors who have not appeared in the series are asked in jest why they haven't yet been cast.[2] In 2007, when David Yates was directing Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Bill Nighy said, "I joked with [Yates] that maybe now I wouldn't be the only actor in England who hadn't been in 'Harry Potter'". But "nobody called," Nighy added.[3] Ironically, in 2009, Nighy was cast as Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which Yates is directing.[4] Jude Law has quipped, "Nobody's asked me. I was a bit too old for Harry".[5] When a reporter compared Potions professor Horace Slughorn's obsession with famous names to the series' connection to "every notable British actor," Jim Broadbent, who plays Slughorn said, "Well, not every actor gets invited. I know some who are still waiting."[6]

The list is sorted by film and character, as some characters have been portrayed by multiple actors. The list also includes confirmed cast members for the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, due to be released in 2009,[7] and the seventh, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, due to be released in two parts in 2010 and 2011.
