Transilvania University of Braşov is a public university awarding bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees located in Braşov, Romania.

The university descends from the Academy of Commercial and Industrial Studies established in 1940. In 1948 the Institute of Forestry and in 1949 the Institute of Mechanics were established as separate institutions, which merged in 1953 under the name of Polytechnic Institute of Brasov. In 1959 a Wood Industrialization Department was added to the institute, and in 1964 a Department of Technology. In 1960 the Pedagogical Institute (Mathematics, Physics - Chemistry, Biology) was formed in Brasov, adding in 1969 a Department of Music.
In 1971 the Polytechnic Institute and the Pedagogical Institute merged under the name of University of Brasov. In 1991 University of Brasov was renamed Transilvania University of Brasov.
