Shanghai Metro Line 6, although actually named the Pudong Light Railway (light rail, 轻轨, qīng guǐ), the underground sections are typically referred to as subways, (地铁, dì tiě). The Metro Line 6 is a rapid transit line in Shanghai, China. The entire line is located in Pudong New Area, and is operated by the Shanghai Modern Rail Transit Co. Ltd. A complete trip between the two end terminals, Gangcheng Road and Lingyan Road (South) takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.
[edit] Overview
Line 6 opened on December 29, 2007. It will initially run with 4 trains. The trains are manufactured by Shanghai Electric and Alstom. Not unlike the Lexington Ave Subway in New York City, passenger traffic has consistently exceeded the designed capacity of the line since its opening and causes severe strain to the services. The choice of tracks and rolling stock not interchangeable with other lines made it less practical to upgrade the facilities to meet demands. Realising the sheer miscalculation during constriction, the municipal government have pledged to add new trains and shorten wait times starting in June 2008. However, Line 6 still suffers severe crowding and delays especially during rush hours.
[edit] Interchanges
[edit] Future
- Jiyang Road, the last one station of Line 6 will open after the end of construction. It will be the interchange between Line 6 and Line 8 and Line 11.
