Phra Lak Phra Lam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Phra Lak Phra Ram (ພຣະລັກພຣະຣາມ, pronounced [pʰaː lɑk pʰaː raːm][missing tone]) is the Lao version of India's Ramayana epic. The title comes from the Lao names for Lakshmana and Rama. There are several versions of this story and like the Malay Hikayat Seri Rama they often give more prominence to Lakshmana than was done in the original, hence the title.
Originally written on palm leaf manuscripts, the story of Phra Lak Phra Ram has also been adapted to Lao ballet. As a Jataka tale it is regarded by Laotians as very sacred.
