The following is a list of the 50 largest pharmaceutical and biotech companies ranked by healthcare revenue as of 2008^[update].^{[citation needed]} Some companies (eg, Johnson and Johnson and Procter & Gamble) have additional revenue not included here. The phrase Big Pharma is often used to refer to companies with revenue in excess of $3 billion,^{[citation needed]} and/or R&D expenditure in excess of $500 million,^{[citation needed]} and represents the first 30 or so companies in this list.^{[citation needed]}
