An ornamental stone is a stone used as a decoration. It differs from a gemstones in that is not only used for jewelry. However, an ornamental stone may also be a gemstone. Alabaster is an example of an ornamental stone. It is used for the rails of staircases and halls in fancy buildings. Marble is an ornamental stone used for sculpture and as a building material.
