Meta-Medicine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

META-Medicine claims to be an integrative medicine diagnostics and therapy model based on the biopsychosocial connection with a focus on training and accrediting Integrative Medicine Health Coaches.

META-Medicine Health Coaches assist their clients to uncover the root cause of the stressful events that may cause their health issues and create awareness of the biological, psychological and social meaning of their symptoms as an important step towards a complete healing. The coaches work alongside and in synergy with a client's doctor, naturopath, complementary and alternative therapist to assist clients to wellness.

[edit] The 10 guiding principles of META-Medicine

1. Mind, body and spirit are not separate, but a unity interacting with our environment in a synchronous way.
2. Awareness is a key element in every healing process. Disease is a spiritual journey - signals pointing us towards learning lessons.
3. Traumatic life events are the starting point of physical and psychological changes. Every organ is connected to a specific emotional conflict content (like coronary = territory conflict, skin-epidermis = loss-of-contact/separation, stomach mucos = indigestion conflict, etc.)
4. The brain acts like a computer and using brain imaging techniques like a CT scan we can distinguish between 'brain relays'. Each brain relay correlates with specific organs and conflict contents (like one relay in the brain stem relates to the stomach mucosa and 'indigestion conflict'.
5. Disease is a process with two phases and 9 key points which every disease can go through. One phase of disease is the 'stress' phase, another the 'regeneration' phase. Often what we consider two unrelated symptoms actually are part of the same organ/disease process. Understanding the major point and phases and related symptoms is one of the biggest revelation for every patient and health professional.
6. Dis-ease is a highly intelligent process. Every symptom has a unique bio-logical and psychological meaning which allows a patient to learn their life lessons.
7. Depending on the evolutionary development of organs each organs react with specific symptoms in the stress and regeneration phase enabling doctors and health professionals to properly diagnose and understand symptoms and their meaning.
8. Microbes (bacteria, viruses or fungi) are biological helpers in a disease process, not the cause.
9. All healing is self healing. Every patient is unique and requires an individual integrative therapy and healing plan which should include biopsychosocial components and focus on prevention and creating awareness in a patients life.
10. Patients are encouraged to be responsible and knowledgeable decision makers. Taking responsibility for our own health is the first step towards creating a health lifestyle.

[edit] Organizations

The Intl. Meta-Medicine Association[1], a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization registered in the State of California, has been established as the worldwide licensing and accreditation body of Integrative Medicine Health Coaches and Trainers. The organization seems intent to establish a wide network of health professionals including doctors, naturopaths and other licensed therapists training in META-Medicine.

The Heal Breast Cancer Foundation[2] is the research department of the Intl. Meta-Medicine Association and is focusing on researching the healing mechanism of breast cancer based on biopsychosocial model of integrative medicine.

The Integrative Medicine Congress held annually in Munich, Germany bring together expert doctors, naturopaths and therapist in Integrative Medicine [3]

[edit] History

META-Medicine has developed over the last several years into an integrative model of health. Its roots can be found in the works of innovative health experts like Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Memeth Oz, Candace Pert, Bruce H. Lipton, Phd, Carl Simonton and Deepak Chopra and Dr. Hamer.

Dr. Dean Ornish, one of the foremost integrative medicine pioneers and founder of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in San Francisco, California, has proven in several studies that diet and biopsychosocial lifestyle changes can reverse heart disease, cancer and other health issues. In his latest study in 2008 he demonstrated that changing lifestyle will change gene expression.

Dr. Andrew Weil has pioneered complementary medicine and is focusing lately on an integrative approach combining the best of traditional and CAM methods.

Dr. Memeth Oz, known for his appearing role at the Oprah Show, encourages in his practice, research and outreach the role of prevention in creating a health movement. Research has proven the importance of diet, fitness and mind body techniques and now it is time for people to apply this new scientific evidence in their daily life.

In her book Molecules of Emotion[4], psychoneuroimmunologist Candice Pert discusses the revolution since the 60s in mind-body thinking. She throws out the old idea of our brains communicating with our bodies via hard-wired neurons that talk to each other through chemical neurotransmitters. Instead, her research showed that these neurotransmitters are discovered throughout the body, showing that the mind and the body have a two-way conversation using chemicals created by our thoughts - hence the phrase 'molecules of emotions'.

Deepak Chopra MD, author of several books looking at mind-body interactions, including Quantum Healing[5] points out that over the past few decades neurotransmitters for various emotions and feelings have been uncovered, changing pain, hunger and dis-ease from something that was considered 'all in your head' to a complicated interaction between body and mind.

Cellular biologist Bruce Lipton[6] continues this thinking, offering a mechanism for how thoughts change our bodies to create and cure disease. He points out that DNA is not the brain of the cell. Lipton believes that our thoughts and emotions turn our genes on and off, and likens our mind and body to TV sets, while the environment is the TV signal. This kind of thinking is readily accepted by Meta-Medicine consultants.

Dr. Hamer found the 5 biological laws and formulated his New Medicine. He was first to describe the twophases of disease, the importance of biological conflict shocks, the organ-brain-conflict relationship and embryonic layer connection to symptoms. Even if Dr. Hamer has been rightfully criticized for his extreme views and remarks against conventional medicine, META-Medicine has been integrating the evidence-based knowledge found to be valuable into a positive, integrative new model.

[edit] Criticism

META-Medicine is merely a set of tautologies and rationalisations with no scientifically proven effect.

There is no viable research confirming the importance of the biopsychosocial connection for prevention and health.

The above mentioned anomalies in brain CT scans have been identified by radiologists to be ring artifacts.[7]

Despite a psychological and emotional state is important to recovery from illness, it is clear that meta-medicine overstates this, while not placing enough emphasis on foreign molecules invading the body.

META-Medicine is in part based on Dr. Hamer's work and therefore can not be taken seriously.

Susanne Billander who have written: The Secret Of Cancer And Other Diseases, listed in the media links below have been reported for quackery to The Swedish national board of health and welfare regarding claims on her homepage where she stated that she could cure cancer. The text on the hompage was later changed and Susanne commented in a local newspaper: "I know I'm not allowed to treat cancer even though I know how to."
