Wallenberg family

The Wallenberg family is one of the most influential and wealthy families in Sweden, renowned as bankers and industrialists.[1] In 1990, it was estimated that the family indirectly controlled one-third of the Swedish Gross National Product.[2] The Wallenberg family maintains control through an old-boy network of hand-chosen executives and by possessing the largest voting block of stock in each affiliated company. The diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, is known for saving thousands of Jews in Hungary from the Holocaust during World War II.

The Wallenberg family have a large ownership and influence in business through the so-called Wallenberg Foundations. There are about 10 diffrent foundations founded by the Wallenberg family. Largest of the Wallenberg Foundations are Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, the endowment's assets were $5.3 billion at year-end 2008, and ranks 19th in total assets, out of all foundations in the World.

- Marcus Wallenberg (1774–1833), nephew of Jacob Wallenberg, bishop in Linköping.
- Andre Oscar Wallenberg (1816–1886), son of Marcus Wallenberg, naval officer, newspaper tycoon, and politician, Founder of Stockholms Enskilda Bank in 1856.

- Raoul Wallenberg (1912–c.1947), son of Raoul Oscar Wallenberg, diplomat acclaimed for his role in saving a great number of Jews in the Holocaust.
