Irina Athanasiu

Irina Athanasiu (March 7, 1948, Bucharest – December 28, 2006, Bucharest) was a Romanian professor of Computer Science at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science.
To enumerate some of the lectures along her career: "Formal Languages and Automata", "Translator Design", "Programming in assembler", "Modern programming concepts". Other important achievements: establishing the Sun labs (1997) and the Motorola labs (2000) at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, promoting the Free UNIX for Romania movement, founding GURU (the Romanian Group of UNIX users). Irina has authored and co-authored many computer-science books: "8086, 286, 386 micro-processors", "WordStar", "Turbo Pascal 6.0", "Borland Pascal 7.0 for Windows", "Introduction to Turbo Pascal", "Programming techniques", "The UNIX Operating System", "Java Programming Language".
