Huawaizhidi

Sinocentric world and Huawaizhidi (化外之地).
Huawaizhidi (化外之地) is a collective term for the land outward of Chinese culture, which literally means outer fringe of Chinese civilization. Hua (化) is from Chinese character for culture (文化). The people in this area were called Huawaizhimin (化外之民), means uncivilized people.
These two words are sometime used together in Chinese documents as 化外之地、化外之民, which mean uncivilized people in outer fringes of civilization.[1] For example, Taipei in Taiwan was once seemed as Huawaizhidi (化外之地) until its settlement by immigrants from mainland China in 1709.[dubious ][2] Taiwan was again described as Huawaizhidi by the Qing dynasty in the 1870s.[3]
